'Pokémon Go' craze sparks a new culture of encounter

Did you know that over 21 million people are playing this 'new' game now?

When my son said to me that he was walking over to the Catholic church across the street from where we live... my first thought was that I was not hearing him correctly. Why would my young adult son be going to church on a weekday after getting home from work? He has not been to church for sometime because of his crazy work schedule...So, why now, I wondered?

Then, I discovered 'Pokémon Go'. The new free-to-play game app that in some technological-way brings together both worlds: the virtual, and the real world we live in. My son was going over to church to meet up with others because the church grounds were a designated Poke Stop (where users collect resources needed to catch Pokémon, or gyms, where competitions are held among the Pokémon, causing players to be drawn to these locations - Churches and other landmarks in the neighborhood).

My son was going to the church to play the game.

For now, I hope that by just drawing close to the church, my son (and others) will become inspired (at some point) and walk inside the church...and "just be" in the presence of the sacred (God)...There are all kinds of very creative things that we could see happening in the near future. As these things move forward, who knows where technology is going to take us?
